Moving the Camera

From MITVWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

For most amateur shooters who do not have the proper equipment to create smooth camera movements, it is best to keep the camera on a tripod and avoid camera movements.

Extraneous camera moves can disorient one's viewers. Moving the camera should be performed according to a storyboard or other preexisting plan or effect.

Common camera movements include pans and tilts, where the camera changes rotation but does not move. A pan is the most common camera movement, in which the camera is rotated to left or right. A tilt occurs when the camera is rotated up and down.

Dollies, trucks, and pedestals are when the camera actually moves. A dolly is when the camera is moved to left or right. A truck is when the camera is moved forward or backward. A pedestal is when the camera is raised higher or lower.

When no camera movement is required, a tripod should be used.
