Getting Digital Camera Footage onto Windows

From MITVWiki

[edit] Generic Instructions

You will be accessing your Digital Camera much like a USB Flash Drive (USB Key Drive).

  1. Plug your digital camera into your computer (with a USB cable) and power it up.
  2. Open the "My Computer" icon from your desktop.
  3. Look for your camera in the list of drives (you'll probably see C:\ and some other drives). It might have a little camera icon.
  4. Double click the camera icon and browse into the folder. You're going to need to find the video files. Depending on the camera model, they might be mixed in with your photo files.
  5. Double click the file to preview it. It should play back, but if you get an error, you might need to install a media player that plays more formats (try VLC).
  6. Once you find the video files you want, drag and drop them onto your desktop.

[edit] If the Generic Instructions Don't Work

  • Check your camera manual. It might have some helpful information
  • If all else fails, pull the memory card out of your camera and use a memory card reader (amazon link).
